Watch the Webinar: 5 Ways to Improve Your Warehouse Operations

Supply Chain Mavens’ own Maryanne Ross presented a webinar for ASCM on January 18. The webinar, 5 Ways to Improve Your Warehouse Operations, focuses on a set of low-tech, back-to-basics tools that enable higher levels of agility and efficiency. Find out how to improve operations while keeping physical and human resources safer and more secure.

Gary A. Smith, CPIM-F, CSCP-F, CLTD-F, viewed the webinar and sent a review:

“[Maryanne] provides a logical, clear-eyed, and concise presentation of five tools that anyone can use in their warehouse.

Maryanne uses a back-to-basics approach in the webinar. Her five ways include the Five S’s, an additional “S” for Safety, followed by Security, Sustainability, and Root Cause Analysis. She peppers her discussion with practical examples and stories drawn from her years as a practitioner, consultant, and trainer. Maryanne’s is highly knowledgeable, but her style is unhurried and friendly; less like a lecture and, more like inviting the listener to sit down for an afternoon chat.

The content of the webinar is well-structured and logical. Starting with a thorough discussion of the 5-S process, Maryanne discusses not only how it is done but why. She made Safety (#2) sound like a natural extension of the #1, so much so that I almost missed it. Her take on security was from the perspective of what was reasonable as opposed to intolerable. Again, she takes the low-tech approach to sustainability, choosing to partner, collaborate, and share resources rather than discussing solutions that require capital investment and building business cases.

Finally, Maryanne beings it all home with one of the most complete descriptions of Root Cause Analysis, I have heard in a long time.

Maryanne Ross’ webinar “5 Ways to Improve Your Warehouse Operations” is a great starting place for those new to warehousing and distribution, and a great refresher for the experienced as well.”
